PHNOM PENH (Xinhua) -- Cambodia and Thailand on Thursday signed three deals to pave the way for the two neighbors to broaden bilateral ties and cooperation, a Cambodian spokesman said.

"Three memorandums of understanding were signed between the two countries," Eang Sophalleth, a spokesman for Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, told reporters, adding that Hun Sen and his visiting Thai Prime Minister Gen. Prayuth Chan-ocha witnessed the signing ceremony.

The deals aimed to enhance bilateral cooperation in tourism, fighting against human trafficking, and connecting a railway between the two countries.

Prior to attending the signing ceremony, the two leaders held bilateral talks, discussing a number of topics to promote relations and cooperation in economy, trade, investment and tourism, Sophalleth said.

"Gen. Prayuth told Prime Minister Hun Sen that the relations between the two countries have been developing well and the two nations should forget the past conflict so as to work together towards development," he quoted Prayuth as saying to Hun Sen.

Prayuth also said Thailand is looking forward to increasing economic cooperation with Cambodia through establishing special economic zones along the border, investing in the Cambodian stock market, and expanding tourism cooperation.

For his part, Hun Sen congratulated Thailand on returning its political stability to normalcy after months of troubles.

"The stability in Thailand is very important for the whole ASEAN region," he said.

He added that it was necessary for the two countries to enhance cooperation in economy, trade, investment and tourism, stressing that the trade volume between the two countries reached 4.55 billion U.S. dollars last year.

Hun Sen also proposed that the two countries should stick to peaceful means to settle all issues based on the principles of friendship and good neighborliness so as to build a border of peace, friendship, cooperation and development.

According to Sophalleth, the two leaders did not discuss the hot-spot issues such as the territorial dispute near Preah Vihear Temple and the oil-rich overlapping maritime area.

Gen. Prayuth arrived here on Thursday afternoon for a two-day visit. During the stay, he paid a courtesy call on Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni and will pay tribute to the statue of the late King Father Norodom Sihanouk on Friday morning.
